Why Blue Claw in Wellfleet

A local crew, a long-view standard.

Wellfleet is one of the Cape's most carefully preserved towns, and the design culture here is correspondingly conservative. Our Wellfleet work focuses on quiet additions to existing properties — bluestone walks, restored fieldstone walls, careful drainage, plant palettes drawn from species native to the outer Cape — rather than wholesale landscape redesigns.

Wellfleet rewards restraint. The town's regulatory and design-review culture means every project gets weighed against a long-view standard. We approach Wellfleet projects with that in mind — slow site visits, carefully sourced material, native plantings, and finished work that reads as if it had always been part of the property.

Common Wellfleet projects: bluestone walk and step replacement; fieldstone wall restoration; drainage and grading retrofits on bay-side properties; weekly maintenance programs that include lawn, horticultural care, and seasonal cleanups appropriate to outer-Cape properties.

On a Wellfleet bay-side property we re-graded the front of the house to shed water back to the road and rebuilt a 30-foot bluestone walk in a permeable open-joint detail. The walk now drains the property instead of carrying water toward the foundation. The fix is invisible from the road and the lawn upslope of it stays dry.
