Why Blue Claw in Sandwich

A local crew, a long-view standard.

Sandwich is the Cape's oldest town, and the design vocabulary reflects it — heritage stone walls, historic homes, carefully preserved street fabric. Our Sandwich work focuses on restoration masonry, drainage retrofits on historic lots, and full landscape builds on the newer estates inland from Sandy Neck.

Sandwich rewards work that disappears into the existing fabric. We restore stone walls in their original lime mortar, set bluestone walks to match the cut and color of the original 19th-century stones, and propose plantings drawn from species that were actually used in the original landscapes of these properties. Nothing reads as new construction; everything reads as if it had always been there.

Common Sandwich projects: heritage stone-wall restoration; historic granite curb and cobble repair; drainage and grading retrofits on older lots; bluestone walks and terraces; and weekly maintenance programs with crews trained in heritage horticultural practice.

On a Sandwich Village property we re-pointed 200 feet of original 1820s stone wall in lime mortar — the same recipe the original masons used — rather than the modern Portland-cement mortar that would have looked correct for two seasons and then started fracturing the stone. The wall is back in service for another century.
